Fractional AI executive

AI leadership,
by the slice.

I'm Roel Nuyts, a fractional AI executive. Ten years in AI — from an MIT AI course to international executive roles — now on loan to companies that need AI strategy set, shipped and governed, without hiring a full-time CAIO to do it.

Thirty minutes, no deck, no pitch — just where AI does or doesn't make sense for you right now.

Senior Director · Managing Director · VP — AI leadership at California-based and international companies since 2018

“There's a lot of noise around AI. Having an AI executive in the room cuts through it and hones in on the signal.”
Levie Hofstee, CEO, Neurocast

Current engagements

1/3Finance startup

Blaeu (formerly Bottomline)

CxAI counsel on where AI actually moves the P&L — and where it's just a demo. Strategy set at board level, delivery kept honest below it.

2/3Healthcare scaleup

Neurocast

Executive AI leadership where the stakes are clinical: model governance, regulatory posture, and a roadmap that survives contact with compliance.

3/3SMB SaaS

GetStamped.io

Making AI a product advantage rather than a line item — feature strategy, build-vs-buy calls, and shipping cadence a small team can sustain.

03 · About

Ten years, one discipline

I started with an MIT AI course when the field was still a curiosity, and stayed through the decade it became infrastructure — building teams, shipping models, and holding international executive AI roles along the way. What clients get is the judgment that comes from having made the expensive mistakes on someone else's budget already.

The work has spanned time zones as well as sectors: on the ground in Silicon Valley, and remotely for companies in San Francisco, Vancouver, New York and Amsterdam.

Typical engagements

1/3

Fractional CAIO

A fixed slice of the week as your AI executive: strategy, hiring, vendor calls, board reporting. The seat is filled; the salary isn't.

2/3

AI strategy & roadmap

A short, sharp engagement that ends with a plan your team can execute: where AI pays, what it costs, and what to deliberately not build.

3/3

Advisory & governance

A standing line to an AI executive — for the build-vs-buy call, the model-risk question, the board deck due Thursday.

FAQ

Why should I trust an AI consultant I've never heard of?

Because I'm not new to this. I've been in AI since 2018 — formal study at MIT and Stanford — and worked at the senior level ever since: Senior Director, Managing Director, VP, at California-based and international companies. This isn't a pivot I made when AI got trendy. It's what I've done for years.

Is my company too small for this?

No — this is who the page is for. I work with founders and execs at companies roughly 10-200 people, not enterprises that already have a Chief AI Officer on staff. If you don't have full-time AI leadership and want a straight answer, you're the fit.

What actually happens on the 30-minute call?

We talk about your business, not slides. No pitch deck, no sales script. I ask what you're trying to do, where AI might actually help, and where it's a waste of your time and money. You leave with a clear next step — or a clear "not yet."

What if we conclude AI isn't the answer — was the call still worth it?

Yes. Knowing where AI doesn't apply is half the value — it stops you spending budget chasing it. A blunt "no" from someone who's actually done this beats a vague "maybe" from someone trying to sell you the opposite.
